Arthur Laeuffer is the founder and director of Hôtel de l’Abbaye.
Intimate and secluded, Hôtel de l’Abbaye opened in 2019 in the swish neighbourhood of Ainay. Renovated by the decorators at Maison Hand, this former presbytery built in 1852 is a
splendid marriage of history and interior design. Arthur Laeuffer, the founder and owner (and one of the city’s few independent hotelkeepers), aims to make guests feel at home. We also love its restaurant, L’Artichaut, with its creative cuisine, and Café Basilic, where we could spend hours idling on the terrace!
“My favourite gallery! I love the sculptures by Jürgen Lingl. Along with Sylvie, the owner, we held a wonderful vernissage at the hotel in honour of an artist couple from the Drôme, Berit and Tresseras. We should do it again!”
Galerie d’art Sylvie Platini“Hidden in the back of a courtyard is thepicture framer who made all the hotel’s frames. Thierry Bounan does amazingmade-to-measure work! He also has a fascinating art gallery space."”
Autour de l'Image“Louis Simart is an independent artisan chocolatier who makes everything from scratch. We buy lots of little treats from him for the hotel’s guests… and for ourselves of course! Be careful, though, because they’re very moreish!”
Louis Simart Chocolatier“This place simply has all kinds of things! For cookery, housework, DIY… And if you can’t find what you’re looking for, Benoît and Noémie will order it. This hardware shop has been in business since the 1940s and it’s like an Aladdin’s Cave!”
