Perfume as a Christmas gift? Perhaps not the world’s most original idea, but here we have a selection of independent local perfumeries to make your gift special.

Surprising

In the pretty little perfume shop Odorem you will find the ‘Bastille’ range of perfumes, which are all natural (95% natural ingredients) and transparent. ‘Rayon vert’ (green ray) is a surprising perfume: basil, everlasting flower, aniseed and fennel come together to form an explosive and sunny cocktail.
50 ml, €95.

Sensual

“Amber is a sensational perfume unlike any other,” enthuses Jean-Claude Ellena. Along with his daughter, Céline, he designed a collection of perfumes, where the ingredient has the freedom to fully express itself, for the Lyonnais brand 100BON. This is the case of the exquisite ‘Ambre et Fève Tonka’ (amber and tonka bean) that combines sensuality and balance.
50 ml, €51.

Beauty of musk

Continuing in the wake of her great grandmother, who grew orange trees to supply the biggest perfumeries of the time, Elodie Campagne created Maison Laugier in 2016. Her range of exclusive perfumes use exceptional ingredients. Among the four fragrances available, ‘Into the Musk’ is sublime.
50 ml, €155.

Dreamlike

‘Ganymède’ by Marc-Antoine Barrois is a perfume that is unlike any other, based on contrasts between a quartet of mandarin orange, violet, everlasting flower and suede. It is named after a satellite of Jupiter, which was itself named in honour of the young man in Greek mythology whose was famed for his beauty.
100 ml, €190.

Regressive

At Blitz, we have found a moreish perfume with a dark spirit: ‘Frustration’ by État Libre d'Orange. This Parisian perfume brand with an ambitious and bold approach has created a subtle woody-spicy fragrance that blends a regressive vanilla, an intense and sweet rum, and an exuberant vetiver.
100 ml, €210.

Chic florentin

The Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella is the world’s oldest pharmacy. Lyon is home to one of the only French outlets of this Florentine company. Already famous for its elegant colognes and aromatic waters, this year the company is presenting its first eau de parfum, full of refinement and subtlety: ‘L’Iris’ created by Gian Luca Perris.
50 ml, €140.
