To infinity and beyond

Need some space? Why not turn your gaze upwards? With your feet on the ground andyour head in the stars, set course for Terra Cosmos, a new lifestyle trend that's creating a buzz in the world of interior design, including on the streets of Lyon.

You don’t need a spacesuit to explore the trending interior design concept ‘Terra Cosmos’ this winter. A pair of warm mittens and comfy shoes is all you need to explore the city in search of its galactic treasures. It must be said that Lyon knows a thing or two about space. Didn’t the Little Prince – the universally loved character dreamt up by Lyon’s Antoine de Saint-Exupéry – visit at least seven planets? And doesn’t the Terra Cosmos colour palette, ranging from night blue to terracotta, bring to mind the facades lining the banks of the Saône, or the waters of the Rhône in the heart of winter?

Earthy and celestial tones are matched with characterful materials. Combining sophisticated and brutalist elements, granular textures and iridescent surfaces, the furniture, small decorative objects and seasonal designer pieces bring to mind both rocky planet surfaces and interstellar space. To complete the cosmic landscape, round, organic forms and lighting effects create halos and lunar radiance.

A futuristic aesthetic inspired by the 1970s

Kubrick and 2001: A Space Odyssey don’t seem very far away... Just a few stops on the underground train, we continue the intergalactic voyage to the Lyon Auditorium (see page 51), a colossal concrete and steel vessel inaugurated in 1975, and the Musée des Confluences (see page 42), an architectural UFO that opened to the public in 2014. Are you ready to set off for the year’s dreamiest shopping expedition? Follow us as we introduce you to our favourite earthlings!

Planet hopping

Combine your space journey with a fun and educational mission at the Vaulx-en-Velin planetarium. Its new film, Des oasis dans l’espace [Oases in Space], will take you deep into the solar system in search of water in all its forms, from the craters of Mercury to Mars and the moons of Jupiter. Ideal for visitors of all ages to step into the shoes of an astronaut.

Interstellar

Even French astronaut Thomas Pesquet has never seen interstellar space like this! With her brand Papier Merveille, created in Lyon a dozen years ago, Christine Dufaut offers a range of uplifting notebooks and graphic posters with spacey designs. We love the poster ‘Space’.

€15 for an A3 poster.

Created in 1965 by Vico Magistretti, the lamp ‘Eclisse’ has a special place in the galaxy of cult 1960s Italian designer lamps. It even won the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award in 1967. The lamp was named after its ability to “eclipse”
