Whether it’s queer, gangster or sci-fi films, spring is the season for the silver screen in Lyon. Sneak preview.

Festival Écrans Mixtes

This is France’s leading queer film festival. Ever more inclusive and avant-garde, this year it is offering film buffs and anyone curious a chance to see eight films in the running for the Mastercard prize, as well as a retrospective dedicated to director Sébastien Lifshitz.
As a new feature this year, the 9th of March will be entirely devoted to dance, with a film screening, as well as drag king and cabaret king workshops at the Maison de la Danse.6 to 14 March, in more than 30 venues around the metropolitan area.

Les Reflets du cinéma ibérique

40 years no less! For its fortieth anniversary, the festival Les Reflets du Cinéma Ibérique, in Villeurbanne, is splashing out and putting on more than 15 films (many of which will be screened for the first time) from the Iberian peninsula and Latin America.
13 to 26 March 2024, at the cinema Zola in Villeurbanne

Hallucinations collectives

Fancy venturing off the beaten track to discover forgotten and unorthodox films? This is exactly what the association ZoneBis set out to do when it created Hallucinations collectives 17 years ago. For the 2024 edition, the festival is dusting off 30 retro films to share with the public, and more besides.

26 March to 1 April 2024, at the cinema Comœdia

Les Mauvais Gones

For its sixth year, the youngest of Lyon’s film festivals is staying true to its code of honour by offering five evenings dedicated to gangsters. Don’t miss the third night for the screening of American Bluff with cocktails and special US theme entertainment.
1 to 5 April 2024, at the cinema UGC Confluence et Cité internationale

Festival Cinémas du Sud

The three-day festival Cinéma du Sud offers a chance to discover new films from North Africa and the Middle East. Through the lens of cinema, experience the realities of the modern Arab world, including religious issues, xenophobia, war, exile and more.

Les Intergalactiques

‘Bread and circuses’ (‘Du pain et des jeux’) is the new theme of the festival Les Intergalactiques. The idea is to explore sport, competition and mass entertainment in the sci-fi genre. The programme includes roundtables, a flea market full of nerdy artefacts, a book fair, musical readings... The perfect way to limber up for the Paris Olympics.
18 to 23 April 2024, in various venues in the metropolitan area.
