Vlad is not only an history and geography teacher but has also been a video journalist as the face of the Instagram account A l'époque, which gives viewers the opportunity to (re)discover Lyon through hidden gems and historic anecdotes.

Reference

His very first video for A l’époque (previously MX Lyon) aimed at protesters campaigning to oust the statue of Louis XIV on Place Bellecour (deemed too royalist) was a success. Since then, he’s travelled all over Lyon and the region: “The more you film, the more subjects you find. We’ve started covering recipes and expressions from Lyon dialect like “bouchon” (traditional restaurant) and “vago” (car).”

Music

“I listen a lot on Soundcloud and Spotify. I’ve got more than 100 playlists, which are pretty well organised. I love music, even if I don’t play any instruments. Concerts are my thing. I made a video this summer at Hellfest on my personal account @taldap that has clocked up over 700,000 views, it’s my little treat.”

Wallpaper

"A photo of my girlfriend Siegrid and my cat Olga! Yes, I like cats a lot, particularly on social media. By the way, I recommend you check out the Cats & Metal music Instagram account."

Most liked video

"The video of the Hôtel de Milan, a hotel abandoned for more than 100 years on Place des Terreaux. We got access to it via a couple who lived next door (their patio opens onto the hotel, which is inaccessible from the road). There’s also the video of the Rosa Mir garden or the one on the history of Fourvière’s metallic tower)."

Last text message

"I’m more into DMing on Instagram than texting. Unsurprisingly, it’s my girlfriend who sent me a cat video…"!

Social Network

"I’m online quite a lot, but I manage to keep some distance. Working as a teacher definitely helps, social media aren’t my work. But I use them for my students. They follow “A l’Époque”, which I’m proud of, and I recommend them YouTubers like Notabene, Pour La Petite Histoire and L’Histoire par les Cartes."
