Riding on the wave of a new generation of mocktails and non-alcoholic drinks, teetotalism is gaining ground and popularity.
Take Sober Spirits, for example, a fledgling local start-up that offers 0% gin and rum. Made in France and distilled near Lyon, Sober Spirits’ drinks are based on traditional spirits.
They use an innovative alcohol extraction technique to remove the ethanol, while retaining all the flavours. Citrus fruits, plants and spices are added to the recipes to produce drinks that, following distillation, have little sugar, woody notes, and are even aged!
You will find them online and in many cellars, grocer’s and bars in Lyon and all over France. Their drinks are a huge success and are even exported overseas. A whisky will be added to the range very soon. They make the perfect partners for a Dry January, to detox after the excesses of New Year’s celebrations.
